Program Description
How does it work?
The high school and university volunteers of Best Buddies Ecuador and the best friends of Fundación General Ecuatoriana organized themselves in chapters. In general, the chapters have 10 to 15 couples of friends. All the volunteers promise for one year to call their best friend, at least, once a week and to meet their best friend, at least, twice a month.
Benefits for both
The benefits obtained for the best friends are the improvement of the selfconfidence with newfound socail acceptance, individual growth with the participation in various activities, promotion of independence, the satisfaction of having socail acceptance in society and the acquisition/improvement of social skills.
The benefits for the volunteers are the promotion of a social conscience, community support, responsibility towards oneself and others. Also, learning to accept differences and to appreciate the life from a more opened perspective. Furthermore, the knowledge and recognition of the skills/capacities of persons with disabilities.
